Invisalign for Teens

in Columbia, SC

Nowadays, many teens opt for Invisalign as their orthodontic treatment choice because of its convenience and discreet appearance. With Invisalign’s Smartrack material, your teen’s smile can transform up to 50% faster (with weekly aligner changes compared with two-week wear). This way, they can spend less time in treatment and more time confidently enjoying their teenage years.

At Washington Orthondontic, we offer Invisalign treatment specifically designed for teenagers to help them achieve a straighter smile without the hassle of traditional metal braces.

Study Reveals Teens Are More Confident With Invisalign

Kelton, a leading global consumer insights and research firm, conducted an Invisalign Teen confidence survey in 2014. They polled 3,577 U.S. teenagers aged 13–17 and 2,118 U.S. mothers of teens ages 13–17. This survey included an oversample of 101 mothers of teens ages 13–17 who wear or have worn Invisalign clear aligners.

The results revealed that teens wearing Invisalign clear aligners are twice as likely to experience a boost in self-esteem while in treatment than those with metal braces. Another significant finding from the survey was that teens wearing Invisalign aligners reported being more comfortable engaging in social activities than teens with metal braces.

How Does Our Invisalign for Teens Work?

When you and your teen will come for an appointment, here’s what you can expect:

1. Initial Consultation

Our certified Invisalign providers will start with a consultation to determine if Invisalign is the right option for your teen. We will examine their teeth and take digital impressions to create a 3D model of their mouth. This will help us map out the custom treatment plan for your teen's specific needs.

2. Customized Treatment Plan

With Invisalign, every set of aligners is tailored to fit your teen's unique smile. Our orthodontists use advanced software to create a custom treatment plan to shift your teen's teeth into the desired position gradually. This personalized approach ensures efficient and effective results.

3. Wearing Smooth, Comfortable Invisalign Aligners

Invisalign aligners are made of smooth, BPA-free plastic that won't irritate your teen's cheeks and gums like traditional metal braces can. Your teen can easily remove them to brush, floss, eat and drink (except for water). This eliminates the hassle of food restrictions and special cleaning instructions often associated with traditional braces.

Normally, they should wear their Invisalign aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours per day for two weeks for optimal results. However, depending on their situation, we can now recommend changing them weekly, which can reduce treatment time by up to 50%.

4. Invisalign Follow-Up Appointments

As with any orthodontic treatment, regular check-ups are essential to ensure your teen progresses well. We will schedule appointments every six to eight weeks to monitor their progress and provide the next set of aligners. Sometimes, we may need to make minor adjustments to achieve the desired results.

Remember, our team is always available for any questions or concerns you or your teen may have during the treatment process.

Does My Teen Need to Wear a Retainer After Invisalign Treatment?

Yes, your teen will need to wear a retainer after completing Invisalign treatment. This is a standard part of orthodontic care, whether treatment involves traditional braces or
clear aligners like Invisalign.
The first three to six months after finishing the aligners, your teen will need to wear retainers for 22 hours a day to hold teeth in place while the surrounding gum and bone adjust to the new tooth positioning. After the initial period, the exact duration and frequency of retainer use can vary. Some patients may need to wear their retainer only at night, while we instruct others to wear it full-time for longer. Our recommendations are always based on your teen’s individual needs.
